Loan Applicant Answers
Am I eligible to apply for a loan?
We accept, process and consider loan applications from all ranks and branches of active-duty and 20-year career-retired service members, as well as Department of Defense employees (GS-6 and above). If you currently meet those requirements and wish to submit an application, visit us at www.PioneerMilitaryLoans.com.

Do I need good credit to apply?
Credit history is only one of the criteria used to evaluate each loan request. We look at more than your credit score; our Military Scoring Model recognizes the frequent moves, deployments, and financial situations service members face. This allows us to better judge a military customer's credit risk and price our military loans fairly and accurately.

page top

What loan amount do I qualify for?
Loan amounts are based upon amount requested, your credit history, military rank, years in service, ETS and debt-to-income ratio. We are unable to pre-qualify you by phone; you must apply online so we can look at your entire credit profile. If we are unable to accommodate that amount, but can offer you a loan for a lesser amount, we will communicate that offer to you.

page top

I would like to consolidate all my bills. How can I do that?
After you complete the online application, submit a copy of your current end-of- month LES (all pages), and a list of the bills you want to pay off, making sure to include each creditor's name and your current balance. We will be glad to review your request and see if we can be of assistance.

page top

Can I re-apply for a lower amount if I have been denied?
We consider all possible loan amounts during the evaluation process. If you have additional information not provided on the initial application that would be helpful, please e-mail us at customerservice@PioneerMilitaryLoans.com.

page top

What is my estimated payment?
There is a financial calculator located on our website that provides estimated payment amounts. Please be advised that this is only an estimate and the final payment will be determined by the options you choose during the process.

page top

What is my "Home of Record" address?
It is your address of record – normally, this is the address from where you enlisted when you joined the military.

page top

What is my loan application status? How long before I hear from you?
To find out the current status of your loan application, you may check online at any time by going to www.PioneerMilitaryLoans.com and clicking on "Check Application Status". This gives you the most up-to-date information regarding your application. You will also receive an email that will instruct you on what you will need to do in order to complete your loan request process. We strive to provide the BEST and fastest service possible, and will normally respond to you by email within 24 business hours of receiving your completed application and supporting documentation. Response time may fluctuate, however, depending on the volume of applications we receive and seasonal demand.

page top

My loan status says, "Currently in Review." What does that mean?
When your loan is in "Currently in Review" status it means we are reviewing your application. We will normally respond to your completed application within 24 business hours after receiving the supporting documentation. Response time may fluctuate, however, depending on the volume of applications we receive and seasonal demand.

page top

Do you need my banking info?
Your bank information is one of the final requirements necessary to complete the closing process, and is needed so we can deposit the loan proceeds. If you do not receive your funds within 48 hours, please contact us at 888-430-5176.

Refinance Answers
Can I apply if I already have a loan with you? How do I apply for more funds?
The only way to find out if you are eligible for additional funds is to access our website, www.PioneerMilitaryLoans.com and submit a new loan application. We will not refinance existing balances to extend terms of the loan. Once you have completed your new application, you will need to submit a copy of your current end-of-month LES.

page top

Will I have two (2) payments if I get another loan with PML?
If you have a current loan with Pioneer Military Loans we will, in most cases, pay off your existing account and start a new loan. Your new loan will consist of the unpaid balance on your first loan plus the new funds you are requesting. This eliminates your need to make two monthly payments and makes it easier for you to meet your monthly obligations.

page top

Can I apply for a loan if I have credit card debt?
We will be happy to see if you qualify for a debt management loan to reduce the fees and high interest rates associated with credit cards. You may submit an application at www.PioneerMilitaryLoans.com.

page top

How many payments do I have to make before I can re-apply?
Each loan request is evaluated individually. While we would like to see a minimum of six payments to establish a satisfactory payment history on your existing loan, we welcome our customers to apply at any time. You may submit an application at www.PioneerMilitaryLoans.com.

Interest, Fees and Other Charges Answers
How is my interest rate defined?
Interest rates vary from customer to customer. We consider several factors when determining your interest rate, including your credit history (based on a consumer credit report), your military rank, your years of service, and your debt-to-income ratio. We do not determine an interest rate until you apply online so we can look at your entire credit profile.

page top

Can you tell me more about interest rates?
A helpful way to understand interest rates is to look at how car insurance is priced, because it's very similar to lending. The lower the risk, the lower the rate. Learn more about interest rates here.

page top

Why is the APR higher than the interest?
The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is the cost of your loan at an annualized rate. This includes any mandatory costs or fees that are shown on the most recent disclosure statement associated with your loan.

page top

What is the "origination fee?"
The origination fee is the cost incurred in setting up and servicing your loan.

page top

Can I benefit from the Service Members Civil Relief Act (SCRA) that President Bush signed into law, amending the Soldier's and Sailor's Relief Act (SSRA)?
The new act specifically calls for a 6 percent interest rate on loan obligations that were taken prior to being called to active duty. This means that any pre-service debt would be eligible for rate reductions. If you were on active-duty when you took out a loan with us, you will not qualify under the new SCRA. Please click here to read the act.

If you become disabled due to a covered accident or illness, your Accident & Health benefits will pay your monthly loan obligations according to the terms and conditions of the certificate. Insurance acceptance is NOT a requirement for getting a loan; it is completely optional.

page top

Your Accident and Health insurance is in effect on the 14th day of any covered disability or illness. For every month that you are disabled, the insurance will make one full payment on your account.

Federal Legislation Answers
Tell me about the new federal law that protects service members from predatory lenders.
Effective October 1, 2007, the Department of Defense final regulation of the Talent-Nelson amendment has imposed restrictions on certain types of consumer lending. The final regulation focused on predatory products, such as payday loans, car title loans, and tax refund anticipation loans (offered only during tax season in the spring). The most significant restriction is a 36 percent APR cap on loans to service members and their dependents, protecting military families from excessive APR rates. These new restriction will severely limit certain lenders (payday and car title lenders especially) from continuing to do business with service members and their families.

page top

Who is protected by this law?
The law protects a regular or reserve member of the military, serving on active duty, the service member's spouse, and the service member's children.

page top

Why do I have to send a copy of my Military ID?
To comply with the U.S. Patriot Act we must validate the identity of every application. If we are unable to do this as part of the application process, you need to send us a copy of your ID. This is to protect you and your credit.
